Jesus prayed because he could do nothing without God, and neither can we. The only difference being that Luke's version is shorter at various points. When my phone rings and I see her name on my screen, my heart does a little dance.

Luke's version is in response to a disciple's request to teach them to pray. In a few short months, she will walk in procession with the rest of her class to receive her diploma. And will not God give justice to his elect, who cry to him day and night?
There's nothing magical about the words. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. We are in desperate need of forgiveness because of our sin. As we are reminded in I Corinthians"No temptation has seized you except what is common to man.
In the course of Christianizationone of the first texts to be translated between many languages has historically been the Lord's Prayer, long before the full Bible would be translated into the respective languages.
